I recently posted on LinkedIn about the next big thing in endpoint management. Raspberry Pi4 and Stratodesk NoTouch OS. Sub $100 endpoints... how awesome.
LinkedIn Pi
These endpoints are pretty awesome. Most Canakits come preinstalled with Noobs so you can chose your flavor. It was quiet easy to install the latest ARM OS from Stratodesk and manage with our local NTC.
So whats the issue? Well don't try to run RTAV. After getting one-way audio (no mic) and testing 100 different settings. Replicating with the USB and 3.5mm jack. Alleviating the image, the client, the settings and finally the device left me with only one answer. Everything works except the Raspberry PI with Horizon View for audio.
Don't get me wrong, the Pi worked. lsusb lists the device. arecord records the raw file, aplay plays it back from the NoTouch OS. On both the Pi3s and Pi4s. Just not inside of a VMware View session.
I upgraded the ARM OS, tweaked GPOs, USB settings, Audio settings, Blast settings, etc. I searched and searched google. Nothing.
Could I be the only one ever to try to provide 2 way audio on Stratodesk NoTouch via a Horozon View delivered VDI desktop... yes.
This leaves a huge hole for end users who want 2 way audio, webex, cameras, etc. VMware end users have been begging for RTAV for years, now that VMW delivers, we fall short on the endpoint. The BPO industry is a huge market if these technologies can deliver. Call-centers with economical devices providing clear audio and robust applications remotely to any callcenter worldwide at a fraction of the cost. What could be better?
Medical as well.
Imagine a secure VDI desktop delivered through View to a secured low cost endpoint logged in via proximity sensor plus bio that provides doctors and nurses a traveling persistent desktop via UEM that can deliver 2 way audio/video plus advanced imaging and medical diagnostics. Sorry cant do that, we can't pass audio from a microphone.
What a Pi-hole! and not the honey pot type.
